Airport Parking That Charges Your EV While You're Away

Enjoy your holiday and come back to a charged car. At a growing number of UK airports you can hand over your electric car, have it charged while you're away, and collect it ready for the drive home - no hunting for a working charger after a long flight. Skip to the table below to see the options you can book with us, or read on for how it works.

Why have your EV charged while you're away?

Leaving an EV parked for a week or two isn't quite the same as leaving a petrol car:

  • EVs quietly lose a little charge just sitting still, particulary if you wish to use features such as security cameras (Tesla Sentry, for example) - and yours could be sitting still for a while.
  • Cold weather makes that worse, so a car left in an exposed car park over winter won't greet you with the range you left it with.
  • You're often landing late, tired, and facing a long drive — not the moment to discover the nearest charger is broken, busy, or ICE'd (blocked by a petrol car).

Charging before you leave home sorts the outbound trip. It's the journey home that catches people out. Having the car charged for you so that it has a healthy level of battery charge for your journey home makes the whole experience easy.

How it works

The exact process varies by car park, but it usually works as follows:

  • You book a parking option that includes EV charging and drop the car off (or hand it over on arrival for Meet & Greet).
  • You leave your keys and pop your charging cable in the boot.
  • Your car is plugged in and charged while you're away.
  • You collect it topped up and ready to go.

Please note: There are two different types of EV charging parking options:

  1. Those that offer the service of charging your EV whilst you're away - these are the ones listed on this page.
  2. Those that offer EV chargers that are self serve - i.e. on your arrival/return, you plug in your car and wait for it to complete charging.

Our general search results show both of the above parking options marked with 'EV Charging', whereas this page specifically lists (1.), the options where the parking operator will see to the EV charging on your behalf while you are away.

Before you Arrive

Check your confirmation email or the parking operators official web page for information, but generally, it will be a good idea to familiarise yourself with the following:

  • Leave your cable in the boot. Many chargers are untethered, so the car needs its own cable to be charged. Mention it at drop-off so it isn't missed.
  • Check what's included. Some options give a full charge; others cover a set number of hours or kWh. Make sure it's enough to get you home comfortably.
  • Check the connector. Confirm the car park can charge your car - most handle a standard Type 2 connection, but it's worth a quick check.
  • Know the cost. Charging may be included in the price or added on top. Read the small print so there are no surprises on collection.

Got an EV and a flight booked? Compare parking at your airport and fly away knowing you'll come back to a charged car.
