Express Lane Security & Airport Lounges at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport offers a premium service known as Express Lane Security. It costs from £7 per person if you book online. Check the airport's Express Lane booking page for the current price. It’s basically a separate queue that lets you skip the main line. It could be worth considering if you’re short on time (and patience) and travelling during a very busy period.

Kids under 5 get this option for free providing they are travelling with a paying adult.

It should also be noted that there is no Express Lane for Check-In Zone A, so you’ll need to head to Zones B to D if you purchase this service.

Birmingham Airport Information

Birmingham Airport was formerly known as Birmingham International Airport and is positioned around 8 miles southeast of the city centre.

The airport officially opened in July 1939. As with many airports, it was taken over by the military and used by the RAF and the Royal Navy during the second world war where it became a hub for flight training and wartime production.

Since the airport reopened to the public in 1946, it has snowballed in size, handling 12.9 million passengers in 2017, ranking it the UK’s 7th busiest airport.

Numbers fell a little during 2018 and 2019, but they remained above 12 million.

Birmingham Airport offers flights with many of the major European airlines but services extend far beyond Europe. For instance, the second most popular destination in 2019 was Dubai, with over 700,000 travellers heading to the middle eastern destination.
