Park & Ride vs Meet & Greet Airport Parking Prices

10 min read
Quick summary

In our airport parking price snapshot for a 7-day stay during the school summer holidays, Park & Ride was usually cheaper than Meet & Greet where both options were available.

Across the seven UK airports in our comparison, the average cheapest Park & Ride price was £100.97, compared with £128.85 for Meet & Greet.

The saving was not the same everywhere. At Luton, Park & Ride was £49 cheaper than Meet & Greet. At Liverpool, the saving was £41.01, and at Manchester, it was £30. But at Heathrow, the cheapest Meet & Greet option was only £0.05 more than Park & Ride. At Birmingham, the cheapest Park & Ride and Meet & Greet options were the same price.

The main takeaway is simple: do not assume Park & Ride or Meet & Greet will always be the best value. Compare live prices for your airport, dates and parking preferences before booking.

What is Park & Ride airport parking?

Park & Ride airport parking usually means driving to a car park near the airport, parking your car, and then taking a shuttle bus to the terminal.

It is often a good option for travellers who want to keep costs down and do not mind allowing extra time for the transfer.

Typical benefits of Park & Ride include:

  • Lower prices than more convenient parking options
  • Good availability at many UK airports
  • Suitable for longer trips
  • A clear parking location before you travel
  • The option to park your own car in many cases

The main trade-off is convenience. You need to allow time for the transfer, wait for the shuttle bus, and handle your luggage between the car park and terminal.

What is Meet & Greet airport parking?

Meet & Greet airport parking is designed around convenience. In most cases, you drive close to the terminal or to a designated meeting point, hand over your car, and continue to check-in. Your car is then parked for you.

On your return, your vehicle is usually brought back to a collection point near the terminal.

Typical benefits of Meet & Greet include:

  • Less walking with luggage
  • No need to wait for a transfer bus
  • Easier access to the terminal
  • Useful for families, early flights or late-night arrivals
  • Helpful if you are short on time

The main downside is that Meet & Greet can cost more than Park & Ride. It is also especially important to check the provider, arrival instructions, insurance details, meeting point, collection process and customer reviews before booking.

Park & Ride was cheaper at most airports in our snapshot, but the size of the saving varied significantly.

At Luton, Park & Ride was £49 cheaper than Meet & Greet. At Liverpool, it was £41.01 cheaper, and at Manchester, it was £30 cheaper. These were the clearest examples where Park & Ride offered a noticeable saving.

At the other end of the scale, Heathrow showed almost no difference. The cheapest Park & Ride option was £119.95, while the cheapest Meet & Greet option was £120.00. Birmingham was also notable, with both parking types available from £97.99.

This shows why the right choice depends heavily on the airport. In some cases, Park & Ride offers a clear price advantage. In others, Meet & Greet may be worth considering because the extra cost is very small or non-existent.

Where was Park & Ride the best value?

For our sample dates, Park & Ride offered the lowest price at most airports where we compared it directly with Meet & Greet.

The biggest Park & Ride saving was at Luton, where the cheapest Park & Ride option was £100.99 compared with £149.99 for Meet & Greet.

Park & Ride also offered large savings at:

  • Liverpool: £93.99 Park & Ride vs £135.00 Meet & Greet
  • Manchester: £79.99 Park & Ride vs £109.99 Meet & Greet
  • Gatwick: £112.00 Park & Ride vs £131.00 Meet & Greet

Park & Ride can therefore be a strong choice if your main priority is price.

However, the cheapest option is not always the most convenient. Before booking Park & Ride, check:

  • Transfer time to the terminal
  • How often shuttle buses run
  • Whether transfers are included in the price
  • Whether the car park suits your flight time
  • Cancellation terms
  • Customer reviews
  • Whether you keep your keys or leave them with the provider

Where was Meet & Greet worth considering?

Meet & Greet may be worth considering when the price difference is small compared with the convenience it offers.

In our snapshot, Heathrow was the clearest example. The cheapest Park & Ride option was £119.95, while the cheapest Meet & Greet option was £120.00 — a difference of just £0.05.

Birmingham was also notable because the cheapest Park & Ride and Meet & Greet options were both £97.99. Stansted had a relatively modest gap too, with Meet & Greet costing £15 more than Park & Ride.

For some travellers, that extra cost may be worth paying to avoid a transfer bus and get closer to the terminal.

Meet & Greet can be especially useful if:

  • You are travelling with young children
  • You have heavy luggage
  • You are travelling with passengers who have reduced mobility
  • You have a very early or very late flight
  • You want to avoid transfer buses
  • You are short on time

Price should not be the only factor. Always check the provider, arrival instructions, meeting point, collection process, customer reviews and terms before booking.

Is Meet & Greet always more expensive than Park & Ride?

No. In our sample, Meet & Greet was often more expensive than Park & Ride, but not always by much.

At Birmingham, the cheapest Park & Ride and Meet & Greet options were the same price. At Heathrow, Meet & Greet was only £0.05 more. At Stansted, the difference was £15.

At other airports, the gap was much larger. Meet & Greet was £49 more than Park & Ride at Luton, £41.01 more at Liverpool, £30 more at Manchester and £19 more at Gatwick.

This is why it is worth comparing both parking types before choosing. The best option depends on your airport, dates, trip length, luggage, passengers and how much you value convenience.

Cheapest is not always the best value

The cheapest airport parking option may be right for some travellers, but not everyone.

A Park & Ride car park may save money, but it can also add transfer time, waiting time and extra luggage handling. A slightly more expensive Meet & Greet product may be better value if it saves time and makes the journey easier.

This was especially clear at Heathrow, where Meet & Greet was only £0.05 more than Park & Ride in our snapshot. At Birmingham, the cheapest Park & Ride and Meet & Greet options were the same price.

When comparing airport parking, consider:

  • Total price
  • Transfer time
  • Distance from the terminal
  • Customer reviews
  • Security features
  • Cancellation flexibility
  • Arrival and return instructions
  • Whether transfers are included
  • Whether you keep your keys
  • Whether the provider is official, approved or clearly identified

The best option is the one that gives you the right balance of price, convenience and peace of mind.

Our methodology

We checked live airport parking prices using our pricing data for a sample 7-day trip across seven major UK airports.

The sample stay was:

3 August 2026 at 09:00 to 10 August 2026 at 09:00

We compared the cheapest available prices for:

  • Park & Ride
  • Meet & Greet
  • On-airport parking, where relevant for the cheapest overall comparison

Prices were checked on 11 June 2026.

Airport parking prices can change depending on availability, travel dates, booking time, airport, provider, product type and cancellation terms. The prices in this article should be treated as a snapshot, not a guarantee of current availability.

Final verdict: Park & Ride or Meet & Greet?

If you want the lowest possible price, Park & Ride is usually a good place to start.

In our snapshot, Park & Ride was cheaper than Meet & Greet at most airports where both options were available. The biggest savings appeared at Luton, Liverpool and Manchester.

However, Meet & Greet should not be dismissed automatically. At Heathrow, it was only £0.05 more than Park & Ride. At Birmingham, the cheapest Park & Ride and Meet & Greet options were the same price. In those cases, the convenience of Meet & Greet may make it the better overall choice.

The best choice depends on your trip. For some travellers, saving money will be the priority. For others, getting closer to the terminal with less hassle will be worth paying extra for.

Before booking, compare live prices for your airport, travel dates and preferred parking type. That way, you can choose the airport parking option that gives you the best balance of price, convenience and peace of mind.
